New York City Office of the Comptroller

Company:
The City of New York – #1 municipality for claims filed

Line of Business:
Office of the Comptroller – a variety of plaintiff attorney represented bodily injury claims
Client History:
Cybersettle customer since February 2004

Challenge:
  • Like most other municipalities, the City of New York is facing increasing budget pressures.
  • The City of New York was looking for a way to:
    • Reduce their inventory of 40,000 claims file backlog,
    • Speed-up their claims settlement process, and
    • Reduce taxpayer burden by lowering costs associated with resolution of judgments and claims
Resolution:
  • Implemented a "demonstrative project" where sidewalk, school, roadway, city property, traffic device, motor vehicle, recreation and personal injury cases were submitted to Cybersettle.
  • Cybersettle was "integrated" into the City’s claims management system thereby improving the acceptance of the new system by their internal adjusters.
  • More than 1,200 claims were submitted
Results:
  • 66% settlement rate within 30 days of submission.
  • $11.6 Million in litigation and other related cost savings.
  • Increased City pre-litigation settlements / reduced claim cycle time.
  • Allowed City to reallocate resources to revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Estimated ROI: 1,000+%
